Setting Boundaries

Tough is an understatement!

It can be tough to set boundaries. This can be for a multitude of reasons. Maybe we have never been taught how, maybe our parents taught us at a young age that our needs don’t matter and to put everyone else first, might might mimic a parents behaviour or even from abusive relationships.

When we realise that our needs are valid and that it is ok for us to ask for what we want, we can start to get comfortable setting boundaries.

I always say start small. Practice saying no. How many times have you said “yes, no problem” to something that is absolutely going to be a problem for you? Then you go away feeling resentment and annoyed. We need to be comfortable letting others be uncomfortable. Rather than saying yes to them so ease their discomfort, say no in what ever manner works for you and get comfortable with others being uncomfortable.
